While in the U.S. and the U.K. alike changes in spelling have been attempted to be implemented via a formal route, for the most part change has only occurred informally. We have generated formal proceedings and approvals throughout the years, even seen Presidential orders and House of Commons Bills but old spellings have stayed staunchly in place.
